Nature is a part of our lives. However, in a city, one must look very closely in order to perceive the beauty and the uniqueness of the nature around us. The flora in city areas is a part of nature which is regarded more-or-less as a mere supplement; a pretty accessory which characterises the moods of urban regions. But it’s the architectural works created by human beings which really dominate the city scene. The tree is king of the plants – many years old and important in several ways. A city’s trees are loyal souls. They accompany the development of a city over generations. They are witnesses to change and, at the same time, a part of it. They seem to carry within themselves an inexhaustible repertoire of stories.

I have dedicated a series of portraits to these trees. In my opinion, the object and the difficulty of portrait photography is to reveal the individuality of each and every living being.

In my work entitled “Trees of the city”, city trees have been liberated from their surroundings to reveal their individuality. A person viewing these images should be given the opportunity to perceive each individual tree in detail and without distraction.
